How CS2 Damage Is Calculated

Counter-Strike 2 uses a specific formula to determine how much damage each bullet deals. The base damage is modified by three factors: the hitbox multiplier (head 4x, chest 1x, stomach 1.25x, legs 0.75x), the range modifier which reduces damage over distance, and armor penetration which reduces damage against armored targets.

The full formula is: Final Damage = Base Damage × Hitbox Multiplier × (Range Modifier / 100) ^ (Distance / 500) × (Armor Pen / 100)

Armor penetration only applies to protected hitboxes (head with helmet, chest, stomach). Leg shots bypass armor entirely, which is why low armor-pen weapons like the Glock-18 sometimes deal more effective damage to legs than chest against armored opponents.

FAQ

How accurate is this damage calculator?

This calculator uses the same damage formula as CS2: Base Damage × Hitbox Multiplier × Range Modifier × Armor Penetration. Values match in-game results within rounding differences.

What is the range modifier in CS2?

The range modifier determines how much damage is lost per 500 game units of distance. A weapon with 80% range modifier retains 80% damage at 500 units, 64% at 1000 units, and so on (multiplicative).

Do legs take reduced damage?

Yes. Leg shots deal 75% of base damage. However, legs are NOT protected by armor, so against armored opponents, leg shots can sometimes deal more effective damage than chest shots with low armor-pen weapons.
