CS2 One-Shot & One-Tap Weapons
A clean headshot ends most duels instantly. Here are the weapons that reliably one-tap in Counter-Strike 2 and the ranges where they stay lethal.
What counts as a one-tap
A "one-tap" is a single shot that drops a 100 HP opponent — almost always a headshot, since the head carries a x4 damage multiplier. Whether a one-tap actually lands depends on the weapon's base damage, how much armour the target has, and the distance between you, because most guns lose damage over range.
The reliable one-tappers
- AWP — the most dependable one-shot in the game. A hit to the head, chest or stomach is fatal at virtually any range, armour or not.
- AK-47 — one-taps a helmeted head at close and medium range. Damage falloff means very long-range headshots become less certain, so community guidance is to be confident up close and a little more careful across a map.
- Desert Eagle — a high-penetration pistol that headshots for a kill through a helmet at most engagement distances when you hit cleanly.
Conditional one-tappers
- M4A1-S / M4A4 — can one-tap an unhelmeted head, but against a helmet a single shot usually leaves the target alive, so they lean on fast follow-up shots.
- USP-S and other starter pistols — capable of a headshot kill on an unarmoured opponent up close, but unreliable once a helmet or distance is involved.
Range and armour change everything
Two factors decide whether a "one-tap weapon" actually one-taps: the helmet and the distance. A rifle that one-taps at 10 metres may need a second shot at 40 metres because of falloff, and a helmet can flip a guaranteed kill into a survivable hit. The published damage figures floating around the community are helpful guides, not guarantees.
